A match score is a claim about someone's product. So we only show one when we can back it up — and we always say which kind it is.
We hold the full ingredient list for both products. The score weights shared actives, the base formula by label order, and overall overlap.
An independent ingredient database published the comparison. We show their number and label it as theirs, not ours.
For makeup the shade decides, and for fragrance the scent does — neither is readable from an ingredient list. There we show agreement between independent sources instead.
We never invent a percentage to fill a gap. If we can't source it, you get words instead of a number — a made-up number would be the one thing that makes the whole app worthless.
